Getting married on Valentine’s Day sounds like a dream, and for one Fenelton couple, it will become a reality this weekend.

Amanda Crawford and Justin Tirk, both 45, will be wed in a Valentine's Day ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler. Crawford will take Tirk’s last name.

The two hit it off immediately when they were introduced through Tirk’s cousin in June 2019. Tirk messaged Crawford online and they planned a dinner date.

“There was no lack of conversation,” Tirk said.

Their second date was only a few days later, Crawford said.

The couple said Tirk proposed on Valentine’s Day last year, which is why they decided to also make the date their wedding anniversary.

Tirk went for the element of surprise with his proposal. He thought about popping the question over dinner but wanted to make it more private, more intimate.

While the two were on their way out to Serventi’s On The Runway, Tirk waited in the garage on one knee before Crawford walked out.

Crawford said she wasn’t expecting it at all. She said she was so surprised she didn’t even have her “nails on.”

After the wedding, with a little under 200 guests, the couple will have their reception at the East Butler Fire Station hall. They plan to take part in some wedding traditions like the bouquet and garter toss, but they wanted to keep it simple. The guest list is only as large as it is because they both have large families.

After the reception, the newlyweds will leave for a weeklong honeymoon at Lovers Key State Park in Fort Myers Beach, Fla.

February travel is a common theme for the couple. Crawford said last year, they took a Virgin Voyages cruise to the Virgin Islands. They’ve also traveled to Aruba together.

The couple are looking forward to more travel, buying a house and starting their own life when the wedding excitement dies down.

“We like it here,” Crawford said. “We both have family that’s pretty close. It makes it comfortable to live here.”
