Bernie’s Mobile Home Park experiences more water issues
Recently, Kellie Walker and her husband were shopping at a grocery store when they decided to buy bottled water just in case water to their trailer was disrupted again.
That fear came true this week when they and the other residents of Bernie’s Mobile Home Park in Winfield Township were notified of the third disruption to their water service in recent months.
“I think it’s sad that’s where our headspace is at,” Walker said Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Residents of the park received a drinking water warning from the state Department of Environmental Protection on Tuesday. The warning told residents the park experienced loss of positive water pressure due to a waterline break and advised boiling water before consuming it.
“Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and associated headaches,” the warning read.
Walker said she noticed low water pressure Tuesday evening while her husband was taking a shower.
“Last night, my husband was trying to take a shower because he came home from work covered in dust. He asked who was running water, and I told him nobody. That’s when I went to the kitchen sink and saw we had no pressure,” she said.
The park has experienced numerous disruptions to its water service in recent months. In November, residents reported they went without drinkable water for around a month due to high manganese levels. Then, residents experienced a six-day boil water advisory in December due to a water main break.
After noticing the lack of pressure, Walker said she reached out to the property manager, who told her about the break. Since then, she has received periodic updates from management, but the issue remains unsolved 24 hours later.
“I feel like it’s inhumane,” she said.
She said she had been outside and did not see anyone working in the park, but she had received an update that two breaks had been found. She had also been notified that management was supposed to bring water to the park’s residents, but had not received anything as of Wednesday evening.
