Jane Prokopchak
Jane Elizabeth “Mama” Prokopchak, 82, of Butler, passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 8, 1943, in Parker, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Thomas McGregor and Helen Elliott McGregor.
Jane married the love of her life, John R. Prokopchak, on June 22, 1963. Together they shared 57 years of devoted marriage until his passing on April 21, 2021. Family was the heart of Jane’s life. She was proud and honored to be the matriarch as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her large family. Known as Mama to all, this humble, loving, caring and wonderful woman has left a permanent mark etched on her family’s hearts and will be dearly missed.
A dedicated educator, Jane was a former Head Start teacher and current office assistant at Early Learning Connections, Bon Aire Early Learning Center, serving for 45 years.
She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora.
Jane was a member of the Butler Elks, where she participated in many of the lodge’s charitable causes and served several terms as Exalted Ruler.
Jane enjoyed ceramics and crafting with friends and was a talented seamstress who made the best Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She also loved playing cards and often joked that she was a better card player than her daughter, Rhonda.
Jane is survived by four children, Richard Prokopchak and his wife, Karrie, of Columbus, Ohio, Rhonda Meehan and her husband, Jim, of Freeport, Rachel Faulk and her husband, Greg, of Butler, and Tom Prokopchak and his wife, Tammy, of Mansfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jakeb, Hannah and her husband, Mason, Madison, Colin and his wife, Kelly, Abby, Katie, and Julia; and three great-grandchildren, Ari, Graham, and Rowyn.
She is also survived by four siblings, Thomas McGregor and his wife, Roberta, of Prospect, Bonnie Ciesielski, of Freeport, Virginia Stadler, of Butler, and Sherry McGregor, of DuBois, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
PROKOPCHAK — Friends of Jane Elizabeth “Mama” Prokopchak, who died Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in MARTIN FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Radko Blichar, pastor of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, officiating.
Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.
