Burglar who tried to smash his way into Anya Taylor-Joy’s bedroom jailed for 3 years
An armed robber who smashed into a luxury London home where Hollywood star Anya Taylor-Joy was staying and tried to force his way into the actor’s bedroom with a crowbar was sentenced to three years in prison, officials said Wednesday.
Prosecutors said that the way Kirk Holdrick and another masked man tried to get into the star’s bedroom, rather than steal expensive items in the house, suggested they intended to target Taylor-Joy and her husband personally.
The “Queen's Gambit” star and her husband, musician Malcolm McRae, were staying at a London house on Feb. 12, 2023, when Holdrick and another man, who were both wearing balaclavas and gloves, scaled a wall and broke into the property.
McRae locked the door of their bedroom before the intruders tried to prise the door open. The burglars fled after McRae shouted out that he had a gun.
The Crown Prosecution Service said Holdrick was sentenced to three years in prison for the case at London's Woolwich Crown Court on Dec. 12. The details of the case were reported Tuesday by the Press Association news agency, which obtained the sentencing documents.
Holdrick, who was already serving other sentences for separate armed robberies, initially denied being responsible for the burglary but later changed his plea to guilty.

Jelly Roll shows off 300-pound weight loss at 2026 Grammys
Jelly Roll showed off his dramatic weight loss at the Pre-Grammy Gala ahead of the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The country singer, who once weighed roughly 550 pounds, appeared nearly unrecognizable as he walked the red carpet at about 265 pounds, as he told Men’s Health in a profile earlier this month. He later took the stage to perform a tribute to late rocker Ozzy Osbourne.
The “Winning Streak” singer has frequently spoken about his lifelong relationship with weight, revealing that his nickname Jelly Roll stems from being a self-described “chubby kid.”
“I’ve been fat my whole life,” he said on “The Bobby Bones Show” in 2022, noting that his mom gave him the nickname as a child. “She started calling me Jelly Roll when I was young, and I spent the next 20 years trying to grow into the name.”
On the “Dumb Blonde Podcast,” hosted by his wife, Bunnie Xo, the singer described his commitment to improving his health since beginning his weight loss journey in 2022, and why he’s been so open about the process.
“What I want the world to know, and I want people to see … is that I didn’t become successful because of my weight. I became successful in spite of it,” he said. “I somehow managed to be this successful carrying 550 pounds. That’s insane.”
This year, the 41-year-old artist earned three Grammy nominations, one of them for Best Contemporary Country Album for “Beautifully Broken.”

DETROIT — Detroit-raised actor and comedian Dave Coulier’s tongue cancer is in remission, the former "Full House" told "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.
Coulier revealed in December that he is undergoing treatment for tongue cancer, unrelated to his previous bout with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. But he came to "GMA" with good news.
"It's been a roller-coaster ride for sure," the comedian said during an appearance on the ABC morning show. "I'm in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been."
Coulier, 66, appeared on the show during World Cancer Day. The tongue cancer was discovered when he was undergoing a checkup for the lymphoma, and early detection "saved my life," he said.
"I feel as though I can help people," he said. "I never wanted to be the poster boy for cancer, believe me, but now I feel like I can encourage people to get those prostate exams and mammograms, and just talk to your doctors, and get ahead of this."
Coulier, who in recent years moved back to his hometown of St. Clair Shores, also talked about AwearMarket, his well-being initiative and marketplace.
Coulier is due to appear at the ninth annual Astronomicon convention, April 10-12 at the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest.
