Thank you Mayor Bob, streets dept.
I want to express a special thank you to Mayor Bob Dandoy and the city streets department for the little extra they did for the residents of Butler. As you know, St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) does amazing work in our community. But just like anywhere, it does not happen without an amazing group of volunteers behind the scenes.
On Wednesday morning, Jan. 28, I received a call at 8:38 a.m. from a friend and brother volunteer, Chuck, asking if I could help. The entrance to the SVDP Food Pantry on Monroe Street was totally blocked and the snowblower could not get through it. Chuck had been working hours to get the parking lots open but was running out of room for the snow and knew that some residents needed food.
I emailed Mayor Bob, knowing that his priorities for our city were all over the place due to the recent snowfall. I just explained that some of our residents are in need, SVDP had volunteers that never stopped preparing during the last few days and if the residents cannot get into SVDP, they could be in trouble.
At 2:17 p.m., the city responded and was able to open the packed plow drifts so that the SVDP pantry could continue serving our Butler community. Thank you, Mayor Bob, and the entire city streets department, for going out of your way and continually working for Butler. This is what makes our community a wonderful place to live.
