William Gass Jr.
William J. Gass Jr., was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026. He lived his life grounded in faith, guided by love and strengthened by the grace of God.
William was a man of deep conviction who trusted in the Lord throughout his life. His faith was evident in the way he cared for others, valued family and faced life’s joys and challenges with humility and strength. He found comfort in prayer and peace in God's promises, striving always to reflect Christ’s love.
William proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from December 1965 to September 1967. He carried his sense of duty and honor throughout his life.
He was a graduate of Perry High School and completed his sprinkler fitter journeyman training in 1974. He went on to found J&J Fire Protection Co., Inc. in Penn Township, where he built not only a successful business but also a legacy of mentorship. William trained and encouraged many, teaching the importance of craftsmanship, integrity and the value of “loving what you do” in both business and in the trade of fire sprinklers.
William also served his local community with dedication and heart. He coached girls’ youth softball, sponsored many organizations over the years, served on the board of directors for the Penn Township Lions Club, and served for several years on the Penn Township zoning and ordinance committee. He also participated in the mentoring program at St. Luke Lutheran Church, where he encouraged and supported young people in their faith and lives.
He was a member of American Legion Post 117, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Butler County Sheriff's Mounted Posse, where he enjoyed fellowship and service alongside others who shared his values.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, whose presence brought strength and reassurance to those around him. William’s legacy of faith, service, hard work and love will continue through all who were blessed to know him.
William is survived by his wife of 29 years, Vicki Gass; his three sons, John (Kim) Myers, Jarron (Kate) Gass and James (Cortney) Shipley; his daughter, Justine (Jay) Jernejcic; and his sister, Joyce Dillon. He was a proud and loving grandfather to many very special grandchildren and is also fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Gass, Audrey Gass; and his sister, Shirley Klein.
Though we grieve his passing, we take comfort in God’s promise: “Be strong and courageous, for the Lord your God goes with you: He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
