Trump justified in nabbing Maduro

In 2020, Chuck Schumer took to the Senate floor and lambasted President Donald Trump for not bringing an end to Nicolás Maduro’s regime. Schumer said Trump’s promise to liberate Venezuela “flopped.” He goes on to say, “Give us a break, he hasn’t brought an end to the Maduro regime. The Maduro regime is more powerful today and more entrenched than it was when the President began.”

Today, I feel Chuck Schumer has done a 180. He condemns the president for his “reckless” capture of the Venezuelan president. “Let me be clear: Nicolás Maduro is an illegitimate dictator,” Schumer adds, “But launching military action without congressional authorization and without a credible plan for what comes next is reckless.”

Many Democrats condemn Trump’s capture of Maduro, while thousands of Venezuelan Americans are celebrating it. The Democrats claim Trump’s actions are unconstitutional. President Trump, as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, is empowered by the U.S. Constitution to direct military action to protect Americans, fortify U.S. interests, and defend our national security. I feel Maduro represents a clear and present danger to American citizens. As for not notifying Congress, why would Trump risk the lives of American soldiers to accommodate a political party that has fought him tooth and nail for 10 years?
