As significant precipitation and freezing temperatures roll into Butler County, residents in need of a warm place to shelter will have several options.

Those who can safely travel there can visit the following centers:

  • Glade Run warming center in Butler at 123 E. Diamond St.
  • Marion Township Volunteer Fire Company at 2305 West Sunbury Road, Boyers
  • Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company at 313 E. Mercer St., Harrisville

Residents who need non-emergency assistance at any point during or following the storm can call 211, a free, 24-hour service that connects callers with community resources, including utility and housing assistance.

If power outages occur, residents will be directed to warming centers established by municipalities across the county.

Emergency officials said local municipal buildings, fire stations and similar facilities may be used as warming centers, while shelters would be coordinated through the American Red Cross if necessary.

Municipalities that open warming centers will report them to the county, which will share updates in real time on the Butler County PA Emergency Services Facebook page.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued a cold weather advisory for Butler County Friday night as temperatures drop into the single digits and wind chills fell into the negatives.

Temperatures will improve during the day Saturday, with highs reaching the lower teens, meteorologist Jason Frazier said. He added that highs Sunday could reach the lower to mid-20s. However, Frazier said a cold front coming into the area late Sunday night into Monday will push temperatures back down into the upper teens, with Tuesday’s high being in the mid-teens.
