A construction worker at Ryan Homes at Park Place Townhomes in Cranberry Township said he saw an immigration official tackle a detainee who tried to run away when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted an operation in the area Thursday, Jan. 22.

He said Friday morning he witnessed the incident in an area between Callaway and Chital lanes where crews were building townhomes. He added the detainee had run from another area where homes were being constructed a street over near Nolan Circle and May Lane, which was where officials first arrived in the area.

Butler County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in the operation, according to Sheriff Mike Slupe. He previously said 12 of his office’s 35 deputies would receive ICE training. It’s unclear how many deputies aided in Thursday’s operation.

Slupe declined to comment on the ICE-led operation. Attempts to reach three public affairs officers at the ICE Philadelphia field office were unsuccessful.
