Butler man threatens man with stabbing, chases him with knife

A Butler man is accused of threatening to stab and kill another man Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Butler.

Christopher David McCarn, 40, was charged Wednesday, Jan. 21, by Butler city police with three misdemeanor counts of simple assault and two misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats.

Police said they were dispatched to the 400 block of West Jefferson Street for reports of a man with a knife and a possible stabbing.

According to an affidavit in the case, police arrived and spoke with a man on the scene who said his friend was stabbed.

The man told police McCarn then fled into a residence in the 400 block of West Cunningham Street, according to the criminal complaint. Police said they found a rear door to the residence opened and yelled for McCarn to exit the residence.

McCarn complied and was detained, police said.

Police later viewed a video of the incident a woman provided allegedly showing McCarn advancing toward two men with an extended folding knife and saying “I’m going to kill you,” police said.

The video also showed McCarn chasing one of the men and punching the other.

McCarn’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Feb. 2 before District Judge William Fullerton. He is being held in Butler County Prison on $40,000 bail.
