Thomas George Jr.

George

Thomas William George Jr., 85, of Marion Township, Fombell, peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026.

Born Jan. 6, 1941, in New Brighton, Pa., Tom was the son of the late Thomas W. George Sr. and the late Kathryn Ruth (Marvin) George.

Tom grew up in the heart of Fombell. He was a dutiful and cherished son. Tom was a star athlete at Zelienople High School, graduating with the Class of 1959 with several athletic letters. He went on to letter at Thiel College and Slippery Rock University, where he graduated with a teaching degree in physical education and health. Tom transitioned to the newly formed Riverside High School as the boys’ gym teacher. He coached the varsity track and basketball programs and developed the football program as the school’s first football coach.

In 1970, Tom married the love of his life, Linda, and they started their family shortly after.

Tom started several successful businesses: constructing many houses throughout Fombell, opening the Cool Treat ice cream stand in Zelienople and renovating the Oak Grove Inn in Ellwood City. He became a knowledgeable real estate agent with the Murray Agency, helping many families. He was elected township supervisor in 1982, advancing to chairman of the board of supervisors. Tom was a servant leader, dedicating 42 years of service to the township residents. Tom was an outdoor enthusiast who loved to hunt, fish and cut firewood.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years, Linda L. (Teets) George; his daughter, Julianne (Bernard) Novak; son, Jeffrey S. George (Hope); grandchildren, Kaitlin, Abigail, Jackson and Coraline; and sister, Carol Stauffer.
