Jackson Township supervisors provide initial approval for Kobe Point Development

JACKSON TWP — Supervisors gave tentative approval to a new planned residential development following the continuation of a public hearing from December during a meeting on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Weaver Homes cleared one of the necessary hurdles to begin construction of Kobe Point, a development that will include 42 single-family homes, 28 townhouses and related infrastructure on Pattison Street Extension.

It will sit on about 60 acres near the border of Jackson and Cranberry townships.

Township officials continued the hearing as a precaution to give developers an opportunity to clearly outline their trail system within the plan, according to township planning director Nikki Colton.

She added that under Jackson Township’s zoning guidelines, any plan with more than 10 units must establish a trail system that could leave open the possibility of connecting it to other nearby plans or recreational spaces, including one that could eventually lead into Cranberry Township.

“We like to keep that open because we’re working on our recreational plan and trail connections all the time,” she said. “This is the time that we get the best opportunity to get those easements to continue our trails.”

Last year, officials adjusted the township’s zoning ordinance to reduce the number of high-density plans.

The parcel of land that Kobe Point will be constructed on is within what township manager Chris Rearick called a “primary residential corridor.”

He added that most of those corridors have already been built out as Jackson Township continues to manage future development.
