Police: Man flees crash, purchases insurance afterward

ADAMS TWP - A Sarver man is accused of fleeing the scene of a crash on Route 228 then attempting to purchase insurance for the vehicle involved in the incident.

Austin T. Parison, 26, was charged with felony insurance fraud and misdemeanor accident involving damage following a crash Christmas Eve.

Township police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 228 near Mars Valencia Road and was told by the man on the scene that he was rear-ended by another vehicle. The man accused the other driver, who was behind the wheel of a Ford F-450 with a John Deere skid steer on the back, of crashing into him. Police said the man accused that driver of sitting there for a brief period before driving away.

Police tracked the vehicle to Affordable Jobs LLC and found the skid steer registered to Parison. Police said Parison admitted to hitting the vehicle and leaving the scene.

Police found Parison’s insurance had an effective date matching the date of the incident. Progressive Insurance then confirmed the policy was created in the evening after the crash.

Parison’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
