A familiar face has taken over as CEO of St. Barnabas Health System, the corporation announced Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Douglas W. Day was appointed as the president and fourth CEO of the health system Jan. 1. He has been with the company for 40 years and has most recently served as the senior vice president since 2003.

Day is succeeding his father and former president William V. Day, who had held the position for 58 years. William Day was recently named Chairman Emeritus by the board of trustees and will continue to be involved in the health system.

“The transition from Day to Day is a seamless one,” said Daniel S. Henderson, chairman of the system’s board of trustees. “Together, the Days represent nearly a century of combined leadership that has built St. Barnabas into a financially sound, forward-thinking provider of retirement living, health care and charitable services.”

The health system said Day has been a driving force in growing, diversifying and expanding the organization through its retirement communities, hospitality division, land development initiatives and corporate information technology.

The health system operates St. Barnabas Communities, St. Barnabas Clinical Services, St. Barnabas Charities, St. Barnabas Hospitality Group, which owns two golf resorts, St. Barnabas Broadcasting and several strategic subsidiaries.
