State police investigate more than 1,000 crashes, issue 17,000 citations in New Year’s weekend
State police investigated 1,098 vehicle crashes and issued 17,707 citations in the first five days of 2026, according to its communications office.
Of the 1,098 crashes investigated, 69 involved impaired driving. Three fatalities were recorded, with one being DUI-related. People were injured in 158 of the crashes.
Of the 17,707 citations, 378 involved DUI arrests, 4,377 involved speeding, 508 involved drivers not wearing a seat belt, and 60 involved child seat safety.
The statistics include only incidents investigated by state police from Dec. 31 to Jan. 4.
