Hiwiller

Shirley J. Hiwiller, 77, of North Washington, passed away the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at her sister’s home, after a battle with cancer.

She was born on July 30, 1948, in Ridgeville, the daughter of the late Robert W. and Winifred S. (Smith) Truesdale.

Shirley graduated from Moniteau High School, Class of 1966, and worked for over 30 years as a section chief for the Office of Personnel Management in Boyers until her retirement. She attended Community Alliance Church and formerly was a member of Ridgeville Methodist Church. She liked doing crafts and, most of all, loved her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard “Dick” “Konker” Hiwiller, whom she married on May 14, 1971; her daughter, Melanie Hilliard (Patrick O’Donnell) of North Washington; her son, Doug (Lisa) Hiwiller, of Ohio; and five grandchildren, Erika (Zach) Sumner, Makenna and Kaylie Hilliard, and Brendan and Megan Hiwiller.

She is also survived by five sisters, Judy (Dale) White, of Green Valley, Ariz., Joyce (Jim) Whitmire, of Petrolia, Cathy Ryan, of Butler, Barbara (Ed) Biddle, of West Sunbury, and Pam (Jeff) Maxwell, of Slippery Rock; one brother, Dennis (Julie) Truesdale, of Hilliards; three aunts, Brenda Zanella, Mary Ann Bennick and Ellen (George) Hockenberry; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Hiwiller; and an infant brother.

HIWILLER — Family and friends of Shirley J. Hiwiller, who died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.

Private funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 12, with Pastor Mark Pastoria, of Community Alliance Church, officiating.

Burial will be held privately at West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
