Frederick Lesnett

Lesnett

Frederick S. Lesnett, 78, of Williamsburg, Va., passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2025.

Fred was born Oct. 1, 1947, in Grove City. He was the son of the late John F. Lesnett and Olive Lesnett. He is survived by his wife, Angela Lesnett.

After graduating from Slippery Rock High School in 1965, Fred attended Slippery Rock State College where he completed a degree in sociology in 1969. He went on to Kent State University where he earned a Master of Arts in Sociology in 1971 and Purdue University where he was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in Sociology in 1975.

Fred was a professor at Virginia State University, Petersburg, Va., from 1975 to 1980. For the majority of his career, he worked in northern Virginia as a market researcher and program analyst for the United States Postal Service and later in a similar position for the United States Department of Agriculture from 1980 to 2013. After retiring, Fred and his wife, Angela, relocated to Williamsburg in 2017.

When not working, Fred loved to travel. He acted as his own travel agent, making detailed itineraries for trips throughout the U.S. and Europe. But his favorite trips were visits to the U.S. National Parks, especially those in the Western states. He studied the geology that formed the mountains he so loved to see. Getting up very early in a park to see bison, elk and bear (sometimes) was a favorite activity that provided many hours of enjoyment and pleasant memories.

Fred was proud of his family history. According to some sources, his ancestor, Christian Lesnett, immigrated to the United States around 1752 from Germany and eventually settled near Pittsburgh just before the American Revolution. Lesnett families continued to live in Western Pennsylvania for many years.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Judy M. Lesnett.

Fred was a dog owner throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg, https://heritagehumane.org.
