Marie Olszewski

Olszewski

Marie Caroline (Summerville) Olszewski, of Harrison City, Pa., passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.

Marie moved nine years ago to be closer to her daughters, Paula and Carla, from her beloved Saxonburg area home where she and her husband resided for over 44 years.

Born Dec. 2, 1934, during the Depression to E. Paul and Pauline (McKinney) Summerville in Sandy Hollow, Pa., she was the third child in their large family and she lived a simple life mirroring her upbringing with meager means.

Marie received her nursing diploma at Allegheny Valley School of Nursing in 1959, the first and only grandchild on her father’s side to complete secondary education. She met her future husband, Roland, at the hospital where she worked while caring for his brother as her patient.

Marie was a longtime, dedicated member of Middlesex Presbyterian Church of America where she had served in numerous ways as deaconess aide, Sunday school teacher, kitchen aide, Bible schoolteacher/helper and festival worker. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, poetry, reading her Bible, keeping a clean home, being Grandma and “all things family.” She was a loyal supporter to the Samaritan’s Purse organization and loved making up “Operation Christmas Child” shoeboxes each year to send to developing countries.

Her husband of 52 years, Roland, passed away Aug. 25, 2012.

Mom passed the most precious gift to her daughters and family: her faith and love of Jesus Christ.

So many will miss Marie’s sweet nature. Her homemade halupki, potato pancakes, poppy seed roll and many other delicious recipes will be treasured.

She was a loving, devoted mother to her three daughters, Paula (Keith) Macurdy, of Harrison City, Marcie (Mark) Carlsson, of Butler, and Carla (Darin) Myers, of Fairchance; grandma to seven grandchildren, Jaron Macurdy, Meagan (Michael) Buss, Stefan Carlsson, Preston Carlsson, Ashlyn Carlsson, Jackson Myers and Arissa Myers; and three precious great-grandchildren, Grayson, Brynn and Sutton Buss.

She is also survived by siblings, twin sisters; Carolyn (Willie) Powell, of Cabot, and Marilyn (Hal) Callihan, of Mercer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gene, Merle, baby Alan, Lowell, Norman, George and Bradley (Summerville).
