Franklin Township house fire may have started in chimney

Multiple area fire departments responded late Sunday night, Jan. 4, to a house fire in Franklin Township that may have started in the fireplace or chimney, according to an official.

The fire at 109 Country Lane Road prompted a second alarm response after crews arrived on scene shortly after a 10:41 p.m. report to find “heavy fire” throughout the front of the residence.

Nathan Blackwood, fire chief for Prospect-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department, said on Monday the fire was “unintentional” and possibly started from ashes or embers from the house’s fire place or chimney.

No injuries were reported in the fire, but crews were on the scene for almost two and a half hours, according to dispatch reports.

Responding agencies in the county included Prospect-Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, East Butler Volunteer Fire Company, Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company, Portersville-Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team and Butler Township Volunteer Fire District.
