James ‘Jim’ Cherbonneau
James “Jim” Wilfred Cherbonneau, 74, of Slippery Rock, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 4, 1951, in Westfield, Mass., to Wilfred Roy Cherbonneau and Margaret Mary McEwan Cherbonneau.
Jim married Carolyn R. Campbell on May 15, 1999.
Jim received his bachelor’s degree from Westfield State University in Westfield, Mass., and two master’s degrees, in education and in science, from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
His career began in 1974, at American Hardware in Westfield. He later transferred to Butler to become a building materials commodities trader. Jim continued his career with Service Star/Guardian Building Products until his retirement in 2011, where he was a sales and merchandise manager. During retirement, Jim enjoyed woodturning, creating his own whirligigs, refurbishing older computers, working on hit-and-miss engines and bicycling on Rails to Trails.
Jim was a member of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, where he had served as a trustee. He was a fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Additionally, he enjoyed vacationing at Disney World and Florida beaches.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, at home; brother, Gregg Cherbonneau, of Butler; three nephews, Shawn Llosa, of Springfield, Christian (Wendy) Llosa, of Newnan, Ga., and Ryan Prokay, of Bradenton, Fla.; niece, Andrea Llosa, of Westfield; stepdaughter, Lana (Chris) Howell, of Maryland; sisters-in-law, Martha Campbell, of Mars, and Jane (Mike) Prokay, of Grove City; and great-nieces, Emma, Reese and Nessa.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister, Linda Cherbonneau Wojick.
CHERBONNEAU — Family of James “Jim” Wilfred Cherbonneau, who died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, 130 Franklin St., Slippery Rock, with Pastor Tai Courtemanche presiding. There will be a luncheon following the service in the fellowship hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Slippery Rock Community Library and to the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company & Rescue Team.
