Elaine Mulneix

Mulneix

Elaine G. Mulneix, 89, of Zelienople, was called to her eternal home in heaven while surrounded by her family on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025.

Elaine was born in Pittsburgh on July 19, 1936, to Clarence “Cy” and Mabel Kennedy Borland.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clark E. Mulneix, 68 years old, on May 30, 2005; a grandson, Garrett R. Webster, 28 years old, on Sept. 13, 2021; and a sister, Nancy Stewart, 89 years old, on April 11, 2023.

Elaine attended Dick Road Elementary School, one-room school, and graduated from Butler High School in 1954, with hundreds of other kids. She continued her education at the Butler Area School of Business and started her career upon graduation at the Farm Bureau in Butler.

Elaine met the love of her life, Clark Mulneix, whom she married on June 7, 1957, and they remained married until he was called to heaven. With the birth of Clark and Elaine’s first son, Randy, in July of 1958, Elaine became the best stay-at-home mom. Their first daughter, Susan, was born in June 1960, followed by Lou Ann in February 1962 and Paul in July 1967. Elaine loved being a full-time mom to her four children and typically many more friends and family could be found hanging out at the Mulneix home.

Elaine spent a lifetime devoting her time to family and to the Evans City community. She served on the Jackson Township election board for many years. She was a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school and Bible schoolteacher, assisted in starting the girls’ Evans City softball league and coached the Violets softball team. She could be found most summer days providing swim lessons to her kids or watching them swim in the Connoquenessing “Crik,” playing Wiffle ball in the backyard, running along beside a child learning to ride a bike, taking walks with kids and dogs in tow, and generally enjoying life.

For a rather short lady, she played a mean game of PIG basketball, extended from her days of playing high school basketball and volleyball and she had no mercy on her opponents. She spent many hours watching her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews playing sports, dancing, singing or playing instruments in recitals, or just running around the house or yard playing.

Elaine had many hobbies. She also had many friends whom she adored and loved to talk on the phone to each of them. She bowled in a lady’s league, belonged to several card clubs with beloved friends, loved puzzles, and especially loved to read books and the Bible.

Clark and Elaine spent much of their time together, relaxing while having coffee on their porch, bowling in a church couples league, playing cards with their friends, camping — first in tents and progressing to a motor home — and vacationing at the beach. They loved each other and enjoyed each other’s company throughout their entire married life.

God was first in Elaine’s life and she was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church of Evans City, where she participated in the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class, ladies monthly Bible study where they supported and corresponded with one very special child in Haiti for 18 years. She also helped with funeral dinners and Wednesday’s after school youth club, served as a deacon and as president of the Women’s Association, but one of her most significant achievements was to serve as the church secretary for 48 years, retiring in 2021, at 86 years old.

After she suffered a massive stroke in October 2023, leaving her paralyzed, Elaine spent the last two years in the best care at Passavant SeniorLife with her very loving caregivers. Even under her most unfortunate circumstances, Elaine found enjoyment at her last home on earth before heaven.

Elaine is survived by her son, Randy Mulneix, his wife, Kathy, and their children, Brittany Mulneix and her son, River, Brooke Wagner and Cory and their children, Harper and Harlan, Brent Mulneix and Baylie and their son, Kaysen and a baby boy on the way; Elaine’s daughter, Susan Verba, her husband, Louie, their children, Seth Verba and Lori and their children, Lillian and Rebecca, Nathan Verba and Jennifer and their children, Cadence and Cy; Elaine’s daughter, Lou Ann Webster, her husband Rick, their son, Brody Webster and Jacquelyn and a baby girl on the way; Elaine’s son, Paul and his daughter, Natasha Mulneix and Ivan and their children, Ivan and Audrey; Elaine’s sister, Beverly Miller and her husband, George; Elaine’s sisters-in-law, Rose Slupe and Karen Somerville and her husband, Eddie; and a special friend of Elaine and family, Marcie Delaney.

Elaine’s family thanks the tremendous Lutheran SeniorLife — Passavant Community, for their outstanding care, activities provided to accommodate all residents, the love put into the food preparation and serving the food, especially in the Trillium dining room, and of course the caregivers — the nurses and aides. The family was comforted knowing that Elaine was in the best possible care when they could not be with their mom and their gram.
