Seneca Valley girls basketball topples North Hills; Slippery Rock’s Romanovich keeps rolling in win streak: Roundup
Seneca Valley girls basketball was tied with North Hills at halftime, but outscored the Indians by 10 in the second half to earn a 50-40 WPIAL Section 1-6A victory Monday at William Paul Gymnasium.
Reece McFadden led all scorers with 16 points as the Raiders improved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in section play.
Brooke Dufford tallied 11 points in the win and Natalie Hambly 10.
Montour 43, Mars 33 — The host Spartans outscored the Planets 35-18 over the final three quarters.
Alexis Cashdollar’s 19 points led Mars (2-5, 0-3). Tiffany Miller scored 22 for Montour.
Slippery Rock 52, Cochranton 31 — The Rockets breezed past the Cardinals, with a double-double from Madison Romanovich leading the way.
She tallied 20 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. Brielle Jordan added a solid game of 18 points, six assists and four steals, while Gia Kovacik contributed eight points, six boards and three steals.
Slippery Rock (6-1) has won six straight games.
Freeport 38, Gateway 19 — The Yellowjackets outscored the Gators 16-1 in the final period.
Lilly Holloway scored 14 points for Freeport (5-4).
North Catholic 65, Burrell 39 — The Trojanettes (4-3, 2-1) were paced by junior Brady Wehner’s 22 points. Sophomore Sam Weir added 20 points, including four 3-pointers.
Union/A-C Valley 52, Forest Area 38 — The Falcon Knights improved to 4-4 behind Maddy Dehart’s 10 points and 16 rebounds.
Raelynn Fletcher led all scorers with 19 points, and Emma Raschiatore had eight points, five assists and five steals.
Oakland Catholic 65, Knoch 21 — The Knights (0-8, 0-2) received three treys and 13 points from Neah Ewing.
Austen Wroblewski netted 24 points and Ben Detisch 11 as Mars downed Montour 59-44.
The Planets improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in section play.
Seneca Valley remained undefeated with a 3-0 win over Upper St. Clair at Ice Castle Arena. Carter Hoehn scored a goal and had an assist in the third period, both on empty nets.
Hoehn now has eight points this season. Goalie Chris Nichols stopped all 23 shots he faced for the Raiders (10-0-1-0).
Chartiers Valley 5, Butler 4 — The Tornado dropped a back-and-forth affair at Frozen Pond Arena thanks to a hat trick by CV’s Austin Tronabene.
Mason Heichel scored a pair to give him eight goals on the year, and Anthony Trombatt had two assists for the Golden Tornado (8-3-1-1), giving him a team-high 15 this season.
