A-C Valley boys hoops drops Union; Butler falls at New Castle: Roundup
Three A-C Valley players scored in double figures and the Falcons outscored host Union 16-4 in the second period of a 51-45 boys basketball victory on Thursday.
Ryan Ithen paced the victory with 17 points, Joe Rapp scored 15 and Carter Snyder 12.
Jorge Reyes sank 15 points for the Golden Knights.
New Castle 64, Butler 35 — The Golden Tornado (3-3, 1-2) scored just 12 points in the second half in this road loss.
Andrew Gettinger paced Butler with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Karns City 63, Forest Area 36 — The Fires were still within striking distance at halftime, but the host Gremlins dropped a 25-6 run in the third quarter.
Cole Johnston (19 points), Xavier Bartoe (10) and Keegan Schrecengost (10) led the way for KC.
North Catholic 90, Valley 44 — The Trojans led 65-25 at halftime of this rout.
Brandon Pickett scored 22 points to lead the win. Jude Rottmann added 15, Brady Trout 13 and Jason Fredericks 12.
Braden Wall had 19 points for Valley.
Brookville 69, Moniteau 42 — Dawson Cook netted 16 points for the Warriors in this loss.
Isaac Burkett and Owen May scored 13 apiece for Brookville.
Gia Kovacik and Madison Romanovich both drained 17 points in Slippery Rock’s 67-44 defeat of Meadville.
Kovacik’s night also included eight rebounds and five assists. Romanovich grabbed eight rebounds as well.
Brielle Jordan added 10 points and seven assists, Sophia Vinroe 11 points.
Avery Grossman (200 IM, butterfly) and Gianna Savannah (500 freestyle, backstroke) won a pair of individual events for Slippery Rock’s girls in a 104-59 loss to Franklin.
The boys also fell to the Knights, 107-43, despite the efforts of Roan Stauffer, who won the 50 and 100 freestyle and Jordan Eckenrode (butterfly).
