Karns City man accused of threatening neighbors, firing gun outside home released on bail

A Karns City man accused of threatening to kill his neighbor and firing a gun outside his home posted bail and has been released on electronic monitoring, but without access to his firearms.

Michael K. Freedline, 60, was charged Dec. 2 with one misdemeanor count each of terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct following events near his Concord Township residence.

Freedline waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.

Police responded to his home around 9 a.m. Dec. 2 after Freedline allegedly exited his Hooker Road home, stood in the road outside a nearby residence and fired a gun. Police said Freedline said, “I’m going to find you out. I’m going to kill you,” before firing the gun.

Police then spoke with Freedline outside his residence and asked him to lower his voice because a child was walking nearby. Police said Freedline continued yelling profanity and he believed a neighbor had called 911 on him the previous day.

Freedline had posted his $10,000 bail and was waiting on a court-mandated mental health evaluation before his release from Butler County Prison. His pretrial conditions included electronic monitoring and surrendering his firearms to a family member.

Freedline’s formal arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. Feb. 3 in Butler County Common Pleas Court.
