Slippery Rock farm preserved by state
A Slippery Rock Township farm will become a “forever farm” following a designation from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
Meadow Grove Farm, an 88-acre crop farm, received $456,000, with most of the funding from the state and almost $40,000 from the county, to preserve the land.
The funds are part of state efforts to purchase development rights, preventing future residential or commercial development, and ensuring prime farmland “stay farms forever.”
“Protecting farmland isn’t just about preserving open space; it’s about safeguarding the resources that feed and sustain all of us,” Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said in a Thursday news release. “High-quality farmland is one of Pennsylvania’s most valuable economic assets.
The Shapiro administration has preserved 499 farms and over 41,000 acres.
