Shirley Shay
Shirley Shay, 89, of Slippery Rock, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025.
She was born in Ellwood City on June 5, 1936, to the late Dwight and Nora (Crouch) Beachem.
Shirley worked at JCPenney as a retail associate. She was an active member of West Sunbury United Church of the Nazarene and the Rebecca Lodge.
Shirley was a lover of all things sweet and was an excellent homemaker. Shirley valued most spending time with family and friends and no visit was ever long enough. She enjoyed tending to her garden, painting and bird watching. In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling in her camper, roller-skating, swimming, dancing, playing games and holding large family picnics.
Shirley was the beloved wife of Russell Shay, whom she married in 2004; mother of Thomas (Gerry) and Timothy (Nancy) Grossman, Karen (Joseph) Burgoon and Lucinda (Donald) Wilson; sister of Ronald (Brenda), David (LuAnn), Daniel (Kim) and Joyce Beachem, Deb Lewis, Diane Carothers and Darlene Covert; grandmother of Heather (Michael) Hobbs, Joseph (Christy) Burgoon, Crista (Jake) Regis, Renae (Christopher) Brown, Kristin Grossman and Michelle (Andrew) Brown; and great-grandmother of Jacob, Samuel, Hannah, Noah, Isaac, Jonah, Denali, Sedona, McKinley, Troy and Grace. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nora Beachem.
Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by Thomas Grossman and Dalton Brubaker; and her brothers, James, Robert and Frank Beachem.
SHAY — Arrangements for Shirley Shay, who died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, were made through SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at West Sunbury United Church of the Nazarene, 544 Halston Road, West Sunbury.
