Cranberry Township says goodbye to community fixture
At the end of the year, Cranberry Township will be saying goodbye to Police Chief Kevin Meyer, who has spent nearly 30 years keeping the streets of the township safe.
As we learned in the Friday edition of the Butler Eagle, Meyer started as an officer in 1996 and his career has followed the explosive growth of the community over the ensuing decades. After about a decade of service, he was promoted to detective, and then became a lieutenant.
He was named chief in 2015.
“The timing was perfect for when I came in with the growth and the expansion of the community and how the department has grown over the years,” he said during a township supervisors meeting this week. “I’ve been very fortunate.”
Meyer has seen tremendous growth, and as chief he’s worked to keep the protection of the community cutting edge. That’s expanded use of technology, as well as helped to ensure officers are both physically and mentally healthy.
The result of that work is a career dedicated to serving and protecting the residents of Cranberry Township.
Perhaps one of the best measures of someone’s work is what the people who worked with them have to say about them. In Meyer’s case, that’s very positive.
Township manager Dan Santoro praised Meyer as a colleague.
“He’s just been a great leader of the police department and a champion for public safety in this community,” Santoro said. “He really cared about residents and the community in general. He will be missed.”
We wish Meyer the best in retirement.
