Every child should have a toy to open on Christmas, and Toys for Tots makes that magic happen
On a frigid Black Friday morning, Toys for Tots coordinator Matt Thurner stood in the parking lot near Five Below’s Butler Township location to collect toys for Butler County children to unwrap on Christmas morning.
“Every child deserves to have a toy to open up on Christmas,” Thurner said.
The event was one of many toy collections held in Butler County over the past month. Area police departments got involved, asking the community to help stuff their cruisers, the Chuck Swidzinski Team of Realtors threw a toy collection party at the Brick House and more than 200 collection sites in and around Butler County collected toys.
Just last year, the local chapter of Toys for Tots, run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, gave out more than 16,000 toys to more than 2,700 children.
This time of year, parents are thinking about how to make the season magical for their children whose dreams are not impaired by the budget constraints their parents face.
Toys for Tots makes that magic possible.
As Thurner said, every child ought to wake up to presents under the Christmas tree.
As distributions get underway in the next few days, we can only imagine how those gifts will make a difference in so many children’s lives and in the hearts of their families.
As a community, we are grateful for those who gave their time organizing or supporting the toy drives this holiday season. Thank you for making the magic happen.
