Transit Authority upgrades terminal cameras, radios
PENN TWP — Butler Transit Authority continued to upgrade its technology at its final meeting of the year.
The authority’s board voted Tuesday, Dec. 9, to spend $14,060 on cameras for the downtown terminal and $35,639 to add radios to commuter buses.
“We’ll have a little bit of money left over from the cameras that we installed everywhere, and we need to update the cameras at our downtown terminal,” authority executive director John Paul told the board.
As for the radios, he said the authority was advised by a subcontractor to make sure they are installed in all commuter buses. He said the radios would be able to reach to Pittsburgh and back.
Paul said there is no immediate timeline for either project.
As for the projection system upgrades, audiovisual system upgrades and camera replacements to be done by Horizon, which was approved at a November meeting, he said a down payment has been placed but work has not began yet.
The next Butler Transit Authority meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026.
