Transit Authority spends to upgrade equipment
Butler Transit Authority agreed to make some equipment upgrades for the sake of safety and modernization at its most recent meeting.
The authority’s board of directors voted unanimously Nov. 18 to approve quotes from Horizon Information Services to replace the boardroom projection software, upgrade the audiovisual system and replace cameras at its park-and-ride lots.
The cost of all three projects combined is $101,800 — $9,570 for the projection system, $23,430 for the audiovisual system and $68,800 for the cameras.
Executive director John Paul said the cameras at the park-and-ride lots have been sporadic at best, and crews have had to work on them numerous times in the past year. He said there was a period where there were no cameras for more than a month due to a single faulty part.
“There have been a few instances when the authorities requested video and we were unable to provide,” he said. “This is a safety concern we have for our drivers and passengers.”
The work will see a complete rewriting of the camera system by Horizon, he added.
As for the projection equipment, Paul said the upgrades will get the boardroom up to “current standards” in terms of the technology. The audiovisual equipment modernization will allow those training remotely to more easily do so, he said.
“The technology, basically, has just advanced since we installed these. This is 11 years old, 12 years old, 14 years old,” Paul told the directors.
Work on each of the three projects is expected to begin as soon as possible, Paul said at the meeting.
