Steven Kokal
Steven Paul Kokal, 41, of Mars, passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, in Southampton, England.
He was born on May 11, 1984, in Pittsburgh, to Robert P. Kokal and Patricia A. (Gess) Kokal.
He was a graduate of Mars Area High School (2002) and Westminster College (2006). He joined the U.S. Air Force in 2004, serving at the 171st Air Refueling Wing. He deployed to Iraq, Qatar, Guam and Alaska before being honorably discharged in 2010.
Steve was a voracious reader and gained a broad knowledge of many topics, often sharing this knowledge with those around him through interesting discussions and lovely stories. Steve particularly enjoyed linguistics and was always learning a new language. He was an avid lover of music, including playing guitar and being part of a band during his time in Virginia.
Steve developed an appreciation for the outdoors during his time with the Boy Scouts of America, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed learning about other countries and cultures, and was always open for the next adventure, making many close friends wherever he went. His adventures included sailing historic wooden schooners in Maine, supplying goods to Aleutian Islands, forest conservation with the Conservation Corps in Montana, coast-to-coast train trips and a transatlantic voyage on the Queen Mary II to England.
He is survived by his parents, Bob and Pat; brother, Adam and wife, Katherine; nephews, Malcolm and Miles; partner, Jenn Keaten and her children, Ainsley and Everly; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
KOKAL — Family and friends of Steven Paul Kokal, who died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, are invited to reminisce and honor his life from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont, Pa.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at St. Anthony's Chapel, 1704 Harpster St., Pittsburgh, followed by a burial in Verona Cemetery, 11th St. and Pennsylvania Ave., Oakmont, Pa. There will be a gathering at John Anthony's at noon, 115 Center New Texas Road, Pittsburgh.
