Blanket drive organized by Chicora 5-year-old
Having already given away most of her toys, Beckley Jones is looking for another way to help people this holiday.
Beckley, 5, of Chicora, decided to collect blankets to give to people going through cancer treatment during the holidays.
She and her mom, Karissa Beham, placed collection bins at Chicora Alliance Church, 310 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora and Harvest Church Fairview, 118 N. Fairview Main St. in Fairview, which will be there until Dec. 22.
Beckley and Karissa will then take whatever is collected to patients at ACMH Oncology in Kittanning.
Beham said the effort came directly from Beckley. She also plays soccer, T-ball and is in the Chicora Daisy Girl Scout troop.
“She's always wanting to help, She's like a little mother hen,” Beham said of her daughter. “It's just her demeanor that she wants to give back.”
Beham said the two are seeking new blankets, to give patients the best gift possible She said on Friday, Dec. 5, that the bins have already been filled with 22 blankets, which has excited Beckley.
“We will package them up individually and try to make it more personalized for the patient,” Beham said.
