2025 Butler County boys golf all-stars, led by Golfer of the Year: A-C Valley/Union’s Joe Rapp
Joe Rapp hardly ever leaves the golf course, according to Union/A-C Valley boys coach Leo Marron.
“I’m not exaggerating. I live on Foxburg (County Club), he lives on Foxburg,” said Marron, who’s also Rapp’s grandfather. “I look out, Joe’s out there. ... He works on his game seven days a week.”
Rapp’s steady work gave way to a consistency that earned him the lowest scoring average in the KSAC as a junior, which also netted him the league’s MVP.
He’s been named the Butler Eagle’s 2025 Boys Golfer of the Year, as well.
“He played well at state, had a few bad areas that he ran into some troubles, but he still played pretty well down there, with the wind and the conditions,” Marron said.
Rapp was tops at the District 9 Class 2A Individual Championship (147), then tied for 20th at the PIAA Class 2A event with an 8-over 152.
“As the coach, I don’t get to see him play,” Marron said. “I got to see him play one round down at the state tournament. ... It was exciting watching him play, and he carries himself well on the golf course.
“He enjoys the game. I think he wants to pursue it going into college, and I hope he has all the success he can have.”
Here are the rest of the county’s all-star boys golfers, including first team and honorable mentions:
Ethan Crooks, sr., Freeport: This season, Crooks became the second Yellowjackets boys golfer to reach the PIAA Boys Golf Individual Championships, joining Nate Covey, who did so in 2022.
At states, he shot an 11-over 155 to tie for 29th. Crooks shot a two-round total of 17-over to finish tied for 14th at the WPIAL Class 2A individual championship.
Christopher Faber, jr., North Catholic: With a 6-over, Faber tied for 12th at the WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championship, then tied for 12th at states with a 6-over 150.
Jackson Geiger, jr., Mars: Geiger had or tied for the lowest round in 11 of the Planets’ 18 matches this season. His end-of-season average was 35.61 per nine holes. He also tied Mars’ program record with a 32 at Butler Country Club.
Eric Proie, jr., North Catholic: Proie finished tied for 10th with a 15-over at the WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championships, a placement that vaulted him to states. He carded a 12-over 156 at the latter event.
