Lawrence ‘Larry’ Dorenkamp
Lawrence Eugene “Larry” Dorenkamp, 79, of Butler, passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 1, 1946, in Butler, he was a son of the late Clarence P. Dorenkamp and Virginia Davis Dorenkamp.
A 1965 graduate of Butler High School, Larry dedicated his life to public service. He served the City of Butler as a firefighter beginning in 1969, and retired as a captain in 2006.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam. Continuing his commitment to supporting fellow service members, he was also an active member of American Legion Post 117 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 249.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.
Fondly known as “Ollie” to his friends and family, he was a warm, caring man who would do anything for anyone. Always ready for a good time, he loved spending days at his cabin, hunting and fishing with friends, spending time at the river and cheering at sporting events of all kinds, especially those of his children and grandchildren. He was always seen in the stands and he put many miles on the car and even in the air to be there to support them.
As the rock of his family, Larry set a lifelong example for his children and grandchildren through his kindness, integrity and the respectful way he treated others. Larry’s legacy lives on through the family he loved, the friends he cherished and the countless lives he touched through his service and generosity. He was a “Pap” to all and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Dorenkamp Povlick (Brian Bruce), of Butler, and Lawrence P. Dorenkamp and his wife, Julie, of Pittsburgh; his grandsons, Brayden and Coltyn Povlick, of Butler; his brother-in-law, Leonard DiGiacomo and his wife, Rose Ann, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Slick Oswald, Linda Slick, Daniel Dorenkamp and Stephen Dorenkamp; and his loving granddogs, Beau and Mauti.
