Mars boys drop opener on hardwood: roundup

Mars was unable to protect a four-point lead in the final quarter, dropping a 59-55 boys basketball decision to host North Allegheny on Tuesday.

Ben Detisch’s 24 points paced the Planets (0-1), who host Perry on Thursday.

Girls basketball

Upper St. Clair held Seneca Valley’s offense in check while posting a 50-35 victory on the Raiders’ floor.

The Raiders (1-2) were led by Natalie Hambly and Reece McFadden, who both scored 13 points.

Shaler 49, Knoch 22 — Trailing by five points at halftime, the Knights were outscored 20-4 in the third quarter of this loss at home.

Knoch (0-3) received six points apiece from Jada Burgard and Liv Foster.

Reese Smetanka dropped 20 points for the Titans.
