Carolyn Sue Allen, 89, of Butler, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025.

Carolyn was born Dec. 23, 1935, in Elkins, W. Va. She was the daughter of the late Mary and Charles Hansford Fretwell.

She was a devout homemaker who dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Robert Allen, of Slippery Rock; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Jason) Long of Bean Station, Tenn. and Lauren (Stephen) Galloway of Renfrew; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Isabelle Long and Graham Galloway; and one brother, Jack Fretwell, of Sandy Lake.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Allen, whom she married Oct. 9, 1954; one daughter, Mary Lou (Denny) Thompson; one son, Dennis Allen; and one brother, Kenneth Fretwell.

Her family wishes to thank Concordia at the Orchard and Good Samaritan Hospice for their care with a special thank you to Carolyn’s favorite aide, Kim.

ALLEN — Services will be held privately for her family for Carolyn Sue Allen, who died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025.

Carolyn will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Harrisville Prairie Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.
