Woman killed Saturday in Petrolia identified

A 26-year-old woman died Saturday, Nov. 22, after being electrocuted at Sonneborn in Petrolia.

Victoria Zachrich, of Hadley, Mercer County, died of an accidental low-voltage electrocution, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office. State Police said the woman was electrocuted while working at her job site around 10:28 a.m. near Nesbit Avenue.

Police said lifesaving measures were attempted at the scene before Zachrich was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

“Tragically, the incident resulted in the fatality of a contract worker,” said Corinn Smith, the senior director of corporate communications for HF Sinclair, the parent company of Sonneborn. “Our deepest sympathies are with the loved ones of this individual.”

Sonneborn is a Petrolia-based manufacturer of specialty products like white mineral oils, petrolatums and microcrystalline waxes.

“The health and safety of our employees, contractors and communities continue to be our priority,” Smith said.

No other injuries were reported, she continued.

“We are working with the contracting company to investigate the incident and are cooperating with the appropriate agencies during the investigation,” she said.

Police said Karns City EMS, East Butler EMS and the coroner also responded to the scene.
