Joseph Coleman

Coleman

Joseph R. Coleman, 62, of Valencia, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025.

He was born Jan. 17, 1963, on the South Side of Pittsburgh.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Lori (Switalski) Coleman. Joe was the son of Mary (Guzik) and the late Fred Coleman; son-in-law of Betty (Senge) and the late Philip Switalski; proud father of Joseph K. Coleman (Jessica), Hannah Coleman and the late Jacqueline Coleman; stepfather of Troy O’Leary (Katie Sinclair) and Brooke West (Russell); and grandfather of Taylor Weiss and Chloe Coleman.

He was the brother of Jan Ketter (the late Gary); and brother-in-law of Brian Switalski (Debra), Susan Vincent (Edward) and Eric Switalski; uncle to his cherished nieces, Gillian Switalski and Kiersten Oliver Ketter (Austin); and nephews, Dr. George Campbell, Jim Campbell, Noah Vincent, Matthew Switalski, Sam Ketter (Maria); and great-nephews, Branson Campbell and Malcolm Oliver. Many close friends and extended family also survive. Lastly Teddie, his furry little girl who gave him so much comfort over the last few years.

Joe graduated from South Side Catholic High School and worked as a butcher for over 30 years, having owned his own butcher shop in Sharpsburg and eventually retired from Giant Eagle Market District.

He was a dedicated husband to Lori and loved the life they had built together. He enjoyed life with his family and friends and always had fun and made sure everyone around him did too. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and singing to most genres of music but his favorite was southern rock. He was forever the salesman and loved making a sales pitch or a deal. Joe’s favorite quotes: “It’s a small world, but I wouldn’t want to paint it,” and “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.”

Joe is as free as a bird now and his warmth, love of life, generosity and especially sense of humor will be greatly missed. He will live forever in our hearts.

Lori would like to thank the teams at LIFE Butler, Quality Life Services — Chicora, Kadima/The Grove at Harmony, Suncrest Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association as well as her family, friends and co-workers for their immeasurable and unconditional love and support and their care for Joe.
