Police: Man in Center Township chase exceeded 115 mph
A Bridgeville man is accused of leading police on a chase at speeds in excess of 115 mph through Center Township.
Craig Lee Hayden, 49, was charged Monday, Nov. 17, with felony fleeing police, two misdemeanor counts of flight to avoid apprehension, misdemeanor driving while suspended and several summary traffic offenses following the Nov. 15 incident.
Police said they were patrolling West Sunbury Road in Center Township when they spotted a Pontiac two-door sedan. Police followed the vehicle and determined the driver had two active warrants and a suspended license.
As police followed the vehicle around the area, the vehicle turned onto West Sunbury Road traveling north and accelerated quickly, exceeding speeds of 115 mph in the 45 mph zone.
Police said the vehicle also drifted into the oncoming lane multiple times during the pursuit, which lasted four to five miles.
Police said the pursuit was terminated for safety risks as it approached the area of Mahood Road, but they were able to identify Hayden as the driver.
Hayden’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
