BUTLER TWP — Chick-fil-A is officially coming to Butler Township, adding another fast-food restaurant to New Castle Road.

The board of commissioners voted Monday, Nov. 17, to give final approval to the national chain’s land development plan to bring a new location to the township.

Chick-fil-A will build the restaurant on a vacant lot at 660 Butler Crossing, right next to McDonald’s, in front of Kohl’s and across the street from Sheetz.

The chain, based in Georgia, mostly serves chicken and chicken sandwiches, plus waffle fries and other sides.

Justin Thornton, an engineer representing Chick-fil-A, said the proposed building will be similar to a typical Chick-fil-A. The roughly 5,000-square-foot brick building will include 62 seats inside and four outdoor tables.

The restaurant will have two drive-through lanes, running under canopies allowing about 9 feet of clearance.

The restaurant will have 63 parking spots. Thornton said there is no need for a loading zone because deliveries happen overnight.

“Our traffic engineer had approved a summary for this. I think we agreed there should be no issues traffic-wise on the site,” Thornton said.

Thornton and other representatives present said the new Chick-fil-A is a good fit for the Butler Crossing location. Several township administrators also said the plans seem to be good for the spot.

“This is one of the last vacant patch sites in the shopping center. It was previously approved to be another restaurant, well before we started looking at it,” Thornton said. “It never got built. For anyone familiar with that shopping site, you’ll see some of the curve is built, there’s light pole bases there, some of that infrastructure’s already put in there.”

Kim Wyatt, a principal development lead with Chick-fil-A, said Monday night she expects construction to begin sometime in the “third quarter” of next year. Chick-fil-A representatives had previously said the new location would be open by the beginning of 2027.

There is a Chick-fil-A location on Route 228 in Cranberry Township. Another has recently been approved for the Adams Corners shopping center on Route 228 in Adams Township.

Thornton said the new location will be corporate-owned,, but will be operated and managed by a local franchise operator.
