Steve Cicero presents ‘Women Suffrage – Battle for the Ballot’

Butler Area Public Library hosting talk next week

The U.S. recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. However, nothing actually changed until this law was ratified in August of 1920.

The fight to reach this goal was long and the women who won the final battle are little known today, but the story of their courage and conviction will be shared Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Butler Area Public Library by Steve Cicero, “The History Hobo.”

Cicero was a history teacher in Butler Area School District for 38 years, known for his museum-like classroom and collection of historically appropriate hats. As The History Hobo, Steve gives presentations on local, regional and national history, to groups of all ages. He also plans bus tours throughout the tri-state area.

Cicero’s talk begins at 6 p.m. at the Butler library, 218 N. McKean St. in Butler. No registration is required to attend.
