Man charged after baby stops breathing Saturday in Butler Township

A Butler Township man is facing criminal homicide charges after a 2-month-old baby stopped breathing while in his care and died at the hospital on Saturday, Nov. 8, according to state police in Butler.

Vincent Miceli, 32, was charged Sunday, Nov. 9, with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and child endangerment following the incident, according to state police.

Police said they responded at around 2:45 p.m. Saturday to a residence on Spooner Drive for reports of a 2-month-old baby not breathing. Police said there was apparent bruising on the 2-month-old’s head and torso. The baby was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital where he died.

An autopsy on Sunday showed the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.

After interviewing the parents, police found the baby was in Miceli’s care throughout Saturday.

Miceli is being held in Butler County Prison.

Criminal charges for Miceli had not yet been processed in District Judge Kevin O’Donnell’s office as of 8 a.m. Monday. The news release from state police did not include the grading of the criminal charges.

This story was updated at 8:52 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, to reflect the baby was 2 months old. A previous version of this story incorrectly said the baby was 2 years old.
