Phyllis Hancock

Hancock

Phyllis J. Hancock, 77, of Clay Township, passed away the evening of Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, peacefully at Magnolia Place of Saxonburg.

She was born Aug. 3, 1948, in Clay Township, as the daughter of the late Cecil and Dorothy (George) Mershimer.

Phyllis worked at the Moniteau High School cafeteria and then for 20 years at the Moonlight Mushrooms mine. She later retired from working in the bakery department at Walmart for over 20 years. She was a member of Muddy Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church and also the ladies auxiliary of the West Sunbury American Legion Post 243 for many years. She liked to go to concerts, enjoyed travel and would always be found working in her yard. Most of all, she loved going everywhere with her daughter.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Holly Small, and her husband, Travis, of Slippery Rock; stepson, Gary (Helen) Hancock, of Cabot; two grandsons, David (Stephanie) Hancock of Newport, N.C., and Andrew (Rachel) Hancock, of Cabot; her brother, Thomas (Carla) Mershimer of Butler; many nieces and nephews; and her cherished Shih Tzu, Nash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Lowell Hancock; and two sisters: Sandra McGinty and Wanda Beachem.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to Transitions Hospice for its dedicated care and also to Phyllis’ forever friends, Jim and Diane Stephenson, for their constant love and support.
