Single-lane restriction coming to area of Karns Crossing bridge
Route 68 will be restricted to one lane from Nov. 9 through Nov. 26 and from Dec. 2 through Dec. 19 as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation replaces the Karns Crossing Bridge, according to a news release.
The lane restriction will stretch from the intersection of Route 68 and Eau Claire Street in Butler Township to Route 38 in Summit Township. Crews will construct a temporary road to prepare for phase two of the bridge replacement.
The single-lane restriction will be in place for 24 hours each day.
Swank Construction Company of New Kensington is completing the $64.8 million project to be completed in spring 2028.
The project replaces both the bridge itself and the adjacent arch culvert over Connoquenessing Creek. It also includes traffic safety and capacity upgrades at the Route 68 and Delwood Road intersection and the Route 68 and Route 422 eastbound on-ramp intersection, according to the news release.
