Police say Saxonburg man hit juvenile during cornhole tournament

Police are charging a Saxonburg man with misdemeanor simple assault and two other summary offenses after he allegedly struck a juvenile at an event.

Robert Beatty, 53, was charged on Oct. 20 with misdemeanor simple assault as well as summary harassment and public drunkenness after ChildLine report was made against him, according to an affidavit.

According to police, Beatty was attending a cornhole tournament at the Saxonburg Fireman’s Club on Aug. 20 with two juveniles. Police said, over the course of the event, he drank a significant amount of alcohol.

At some point in the night, police said one of the juveniles grabbed Beatty’s house keys and credit card to close out his bar tab and requested the bartender cut Beatty off.

When Beatty learned he was cut off, he confronted the juvenile before striking the child in the ribs, the affidavit said.

According to police, in the days after the incident, the juvenile took ibuprofen, mentioned pain in her side and struggled to take strong breaths.

Beatty’s preliminary hearing is set for 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 18, before District Judge Jack Ripper.
