Franklin Township resident Judy Gimble sinks not one, but two holes-in-one in a month
It was 26 years ago when Judy Gimble refused to take credit for her first hole-in-one.
"I was playing with friends at Delmar Golf Course near Ellwood City," said Gimble, a resident of Franklin Township. "My tee shot was off, ricocheted off a dirt pile, bounced onto the green and into the hole.
"It was a terrible shot, but my friends said it doesn't matter how it gets there as long as it goes in. I just couldn't take credit for that one."
Gimble recently earned not one, but two "legitimate" aces.
On Labor Day, she managed one on the 104-yard No. 17 hole at Stoughton Acres, using an 8-iron. Less than three weeks later, she was playing in a tournament at Clarion Oaks when her tee shot found the cup from 96 yards on No. 8 while swinging a 9-iron.
"Both holes had elevated greens, and I saw the ball go in," Gimble said. "It was very exciting, and I'm not an excitable person."
Her friend, Sue Weigle, was witness to both aces.
Gimble golfs in two leagues at Stoughton Acres. She's been playing regularly for 35 years.
"When I'm on a golf course, it feels like I'm miles away from everything else," she said. "It's like I'm on vacation."
