2 Republicans win six-year terms on Center Township board of supervisors

Center Township’s board of supervisors will see one new face next year.

Republican Mark Lauer won his first six-year term, while fellow Republican incumbent Alan Smallwood won reelection.

Lauer garnered 1,507 votes, or 32.3% of the vote, while Smallwood collected 1,422 votes, or 30.4% of the vote, according to unofficial election results reported in Butler County Bureau of Elections summary reports.

The two defeated Democrat Tom Schiebel, who had 1,314 votes, and Libertarian challenger Derek Scott, who had 403 votes, according to the report. Write-in totals came to 17 votes.

Lauer has lived in Center Township 36 years and has spent 35 years in public service in the township, including 18 years as director of municipal services. He also has experience as a firefighter, paramedic and fire chief.

Smallwood, who has been a supervisor for 12 years, is a lifelong Center Township resident. He works as a self-employed excavating contractor with experience in excavating and pipeline work, as well as purchasing supplies and equipment.

Ahead of the election, Smallwood touted his in-house repairs on the road department’s equipment to hold off on purchasing new equipment.
