President should be uniting, not dividing
I am writing in response to the statement, “I feel Donald Trump has chosen the right way to live.” (“Trump trying to do the right thing,” Pauline Severino, Oct. 12, Page A4) While I respect the diversity of opinions in our society, I must respectfully disagree with this assertion.
Leadership is not merely about personal success or wealth, but about integrity, empathy and respect for others. President Donald Trump's approach, both in business and politics, has often been characterized by divisive rhetoric, disregard for established norms and a focus on self-promotion. These behaviors, in my view, are not the hallmarks of the “right way to live,” especially for someone in a position to influence millions.
I feel living the “right way” should mean fostering unity, practicing honesty and showing compassion — qualities that transcend political affiliation. Unfortunately, Mr. Trump's actions have often deepened social divisions and eroded public trust. His frequent use of inflammatory language and tendency to undermine democratic institutions set a poor example for the next generation.
While some may admire his assertiveness or business acumen, I believe that true leadership and the “right way to live” require humility, accountability and a commitment to the common good.
I urge readers to reflect on the values we wish to uphold as a society and to recognize that the path to a better future is built on respect, understanding and ethical conduct.
