Compromise is a word forgotten by both federal and state legislators.

Citizens should contact them to encourage them to compromise. That is how government used to work.

Each side promised to vote for some legislation the other side wanted. Then government got things done.

Currently, compromise is viewed as betrayal. Unfortunately, the betrayal is to citizens, because no governance occurs.
