Catalytic converter thief gets 36 months probation
A Butler man was sentenced to 36 months probation for stealing two catalytic converters from a body shop in Oakland Township in 2023.
Adam M. Spinner, 36, had previously been arraigned in court in November 2024 and charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft and criminal mischief related to a March 2023 robbery at Randy and Bob’s Auto Body in Oakland Township.
The sentencing was part of an agreement between the defense and prosecution. He was sentenced by Common Pleas Court Judge Timothy McCune.
As part of the agreement, Spinner must also complete 25 hours of community service within the next six months.
At the time of his arrest, state police said they were able to identify Spinner by using blood left at the scene and conducting a DNA test.
According to the criminal complaint at the time, a Randy and Bob’s employee noticed an odd sound coming from a Honda CR-V that was in for service, that ended up stemming from a missing catalytic converter. Blood was also noticed on both the SUV’s frame and tailpipe. A catalytic converter was also found to be missing from a Toyota Tacoma.
Police were able to test the blood and upload the DNA profile to the Combined Index System. From there, the profile was matched with Spinner.
Spinner was held at Butler County Prison following his arrest.
